This UGreen M2 NVME Enclosure was useful for cloning some drives, but unfortunately, it does not dissapate heat effeciently. It gets extremely hot whenever you use it and when you remove the drive, it is absolutely roasting.

On a few occasions, I could actually smell burning as everything was overheating.

With no thermal guard or heat pad, there is a high risk that continued use of this enclosure could damage your NVME drive. This makes it extremely risky to use with expensive NVME SSDs.

Speeds are pretty good though. I was getting around 300 to 350 MB/s reading and writing with 5Gbps ports, around 600 MB/s with 10Gbps with 3.1 Gen 1 10gbps ports and around 900MB/s with Thunderbolt 3 ports.

Pros

* I was able to get around 900MB/s reading and writing through the enclosure
* Provided USB Type C cable is short, but it seems good quality

Cons
----------

* Outer shell gets ridiculously hot
* Offers no heat dissapation for the drive itself
* The plastic M2 holder inside is cheap plastic
* The plastic fastener falls off easily (though one spare is provided)

I'm reluctant to clone any more drives with this due to the risk of damaging an expensive SSD.

If you just want an enclosure to store a small number of files and access them quickly, this enclosure could prove useful, however I cannot recommend this enclosure for transferring a large volume of files due to the overheating issues.

Other reviews have said this enclosure killed their SSD. and I'm inclined to believe them.

Tried installing an application or transfer a large file. and the SSD will freeze for hours and become completely unresponsive.

It's absolutely unusable for large files.

Looks great but the clips broke ok mine so my drive doesn’t feel secure

Love this - so easy to use and clip m.2 drives in and out. Connection is good - smooth - easy.

Great for moving OS to an m.2 in no time at all.

Easy to install with the ssd feels cheap and when on it gets really hot don’t think there is much ventilation.

Instead of screws, they've used a toolless twist and lock way to secure the SSD, but with my Samsung 980 drive it just doesn't fit into place. What's wrong with an ordinary screw?

Seem to be a lot of similar experiences reported here, why didn't I read the one star reports first instead of trusting the overall rating? An expensive mistake. Maybe it's OK on USB2 but can't cope with the much higher speed of USB3?

Pricey for essentially some Aluminium and a PCB with a USB C cable but I’ve had ugreen products before and have been very happy with them, however this product in my view should NOT be used.

Installed my nvme and transfered 8GB of files (small test) and the casing had noticeably heated up close to the point of concern. With this in mind I wondered if it was just a ‘writing’ heat.

I continued to test this drive with continued use for around 15 mins, it became hot to the point I could smell plastics - I quickly disconnected my device and submitted this product for a return!

Thankfully my nvme was only 256GB and an older one I was happy to test. But please check the reviews on this product! A few folk have raised concerns!
