Description

The STABILO EASYoriginal handwriting pen was the first of it’s kind. It was developed by scientists to help children to make learning to write EASY. It has an ergonomic non-slip grip zone which provides the perfect placement for little fingers to encourage the recommended tripod grip, and there's even a specific version for left and right handers. The ink flow is designed specifically for beginners too, which prevents smearing of the writing which is perfect for left handers. The EASYoriginal pens are all refillable with black, blue or red ink and with each refill comes a new nib (sold separately). The STABILO EASYoriginal is designed by scientist, approved by UK teachers and loved by children.

My son loves his new pen. It is a good quality pen but maybe a little pricey for what it is.

Excellent for encouraging correct pen grip

I got this for my son who has a tendency to hold his pen at awkward angles; the shaped grip has done an excellent job of improving his hand position - I can see improvements in his handwriting as a result too.

      Excellent handwriting pen

This pen produces a nice blue line. It is moulded to help a right handed child hold a pen correctly. I am told that it is comfortable to hold. It is a nice fun green colour. Excellent quality as one would expect from Stabilo

In My Opnion A Wonderful Aid to Developing a Good, Neat Script.

As a Primary School Teacher who taught hand writing for 40 odd years, I can honestly say that the STABILO EASY original Handwriting Pen is excellent.
If you or your child is right handed then this is the pen that will make their handwriting better by making it easier to produce a neat legible script.
      #
That is all you really need to know but if you would like to know the reasons for my favourable views and a few suggestions read on.

If you child is left handed then I would get the Left Handed Version.
As soon as I held this pen and tried it I knew it was a brilliant, well-constructed design.

Even my, neat script was better BUT, more importantly, it was far easier to achieve than a normal pen.
      Let me explain.
The normal run of the mill pens in schools ten to be the Berol cylindrical ones. They have stood the test of time, are the right price for budget conscious Heads Teacher, reliable and washable. (unlike the Heads)
But I never liked them for developing a good script.
The grip wasn't quite right and the learner had to spend far too much time concentrating on getting the pen gripped correctly- which is hard for a child learning with a standard- one size fits all pen, and having to constantly readjust to do so rather than concentrate of the script they were writing.
I noted the children soon got fatigued at having to hold the pen correctly and as time went for by their writing deteriorated negating the benefits of the pen.

I had constant arguments with imperious Deputy Head Teachers and others who I realised had no idea what they were talking about to spend a few pence extra per pen and buy the better Stablo ones with the better grip.

This is an excellent pen that is contoured and shaped so that the learner grips the pen in the perfect position.
The grip is comfortable meaning the hand of the child does not tire and the result is all the concentration is on the script written.
The result an easy style that makes it easier to produce a neat and legible script.

      Now a few tips.
Make sure your child is sat in the correct position with the paper straight.
(A quick viewing of the accompanying video explains and illustrates this well.
If the paper is not straight in the first place then you are making it harder to write correctly.
A simple yet all too often ignored fact. (Think back to the bad old days of school when you had limited desk space and had to turn your body and paper around just to get the writing down).

Now some children are very self-conscious about 'having to use a pen that is for 'less able kids'.

If you promote this pen as only being given to selected special children then you will go a long way to creating a self-fulfiling prophecy type of attitude rather than a negative one.
Tell them the pen is stylish and trendy and all the other words and reassurance they need.
If you buy this pen then have a quiet word with their teacher to enable them to use the pen in class is always a good idea.
If you are unlucky to get a snooty non-responsive class teacher go over her head.
Teachers hate this and soon kowtow.
Most reasonable and sensible teachers (underpaid and overworked) will thank you for this thought.
If you do get the odd one ask her to try the pen herself and then an ordinary one and compare the writing.
Mine was far better with this pen so that should convince them.

      Thanks for reading.

I hope your child develops a neat and legible hand writing style.

Makes learning to write much easier

This is a great pen for children who are learning to write. The pen is ergonomically shaped with and comes in LEFT or RIGHT handed versions. It has soft moulded depressions for your thumb and forefinger which aides in learning the correct way to grip a pen/pencil for writing. The pen itself has a rollerball nib and writes in blue ink. The Ink cartridges are replaceable which means you can carry on using the pen for as long as you like. Another nice feature is that it comes with three sticky labels (easy to miss in the packaging) where you can write down your childs name and stick this to an oval depression on the underside of the pen. Handy when your child is taking it to school. The ink is meant to be erasable (with an ink eraser) but this didn't come with the pen. I checked and a normal eraser doesn't work. Our toddler is a bit too young to try the pen out but keeping it ready for when she starts school.

I got this to see if it would help improve my handwriting. Unfortunately I found it difficult to hold and use because I hope a pen completely the wrong way and obviously have done so for a long time. For me trying to hold the pen correctly was difficult for me as my hand now has its own muscle memory. So I would say to use this start right from the word go.

Ensuring a good confident start at handwriting

I thoroughly approve of these easy grip, easy to control, first handwriting pens. We have several young grandchildren now learning to write and draw, so I have seen these pens and pencils being used first hand. The children are encouraged by something designed especially for them, rather than awkwardly using unwieldy kit meant for grown ups. This smart silver and neon green tactile pen folds comfortably into their hands and helps them to guide the line they are making. The roller ball version, 0.5mm nib, makes a good clear line every time. Refills are available. There is a screw on cover for the tip when not in use. Stabilo must have done their research well to produce such a helpful item.

      Works well

This encourages you - pretty well forces you - to hold a pen correctly. It works surprisingly well.

It is remarkable how holding a pen correctly makes a difference to the speed and quality of your handwriting.

Someone who's used to holding a pen in a different way will find it awkward to re-learn it.

A good bonus is that it's refillable.

This rollerball is much more pleasant to write with than a ballpoint pen, and tends to make your handwriting much better. The difference between writing with this and an ordinary ballpoint pen is remarkable. While you can achieve much of that just by switching from a ballpoint pen to a rollerball, this also teaches good habits by encouraging you to hold a pen correctly.

A great pen that makes writing a lot more comfortable

While this is primarily aimed at young children learning to write or improving their handwriting, as a 37 year old whose job entails a lot of hand writing notes Im a HUGE fan of this pen:
The chunky design means its very comfortable to hold for long periods of writing - I sometimes get hand-cramp with biros - and the depressions where your fingers make contact mean you get a lot less stress and discomfort on both your fingers and the bones in your hand. Its difficult to quite articulate how much of a difference it makes, but if like me youre a heavy note-taker, the difference is tangible.
I have a small callusabove the top knuckle on the side of my middle finger from years of writing, which can get a little uncomfortable and painful when I write large amounts at a time; with the slightly spongey section, the pressure is redistributed instead of focussed on one small area, so feels SO much more comfortable.

Overall, the pen is lovely to hold and is a nice writer (the ink isnt sticky or clumpy like some biro ink can be, and the nib is smooth to write with) - and as mentioned, though being aimed at children isnt childlike in colour or design. That said, the fact it comes in a number of colour options is a nice touch.
The reasons though that Ive not given it 5 stars are that he cost is quite high, considering its basically just a slightly fancy pen. Also the finish on the silver plastic is very cheap - and you dont get any cartridges with it other than the one in the pen - Neither would bother me if the pen was cheaper in the first place!
The lid should click on the end of the pen really. Its again not a disaster, but it makes it very easy to lose it; and finally theres a lot of completely unnecessary packaging - the card sleeve is not needed, and the plastic shell even less so. In a time of awareness that waste is an issue, its somewhat niggling to throw a large amount of material away before you even use the product.

In all, though, a great pen that makes writing a lot more comfortable.
