Very disappointing used together with dLAN 1200+ WiFi ac and dLAN 1200 booster

You just plug it in but it's difficult to understand how to link it up. Customer service is very poor. They only speak tech and you'll wait a long time for a response (that was both before the pandemic and after). I explained my set up precisely (a thick, ground floor wall which stops the signal going front to back of narrow house, otherwise, wood frame floors between ground, first and loft). Got 1200+ booster to boost signal from WiFi ac by router. Signal on first floor ok but poor in loft. Asked if I should install one booster on first floor or two (first and loft). Was told one in loft would do the job. It doesn't. First asked how to link all to get onto same named network and received slightly impenetrable instructions. Having finally followed all instructions, and tried it out now for nearly a year, I cannot recommend on the basis of performance and customer service.

      Good product. Recommended!

When this turned up I had a moment of panic that I needed the router connection kit. Luckily I had an electric cable connection from my router already setup for our TV (but a different make). I followed the guide with my fingers crossed that they would be compatible and... Yes! All sorted on the first attempt. The signal is good and WiFi runs at about 50% of the main router speed, which is more than enough. For the money it was certainly a good investment. In my opinion it's better than a standard WiFi extender and probably more reliable. I have both, so we'll no doubt see over time. This little beauty will be a great addition for the garden office. Definitely recommend.

      Brilliant for thick walls!

We recently moved house to a barn conversion with one meter thick walls and our fibre WiFi is usually only 4-5 meg at a stretch with lots of black spots in the house (regular average sized house). The main phone connection point is upstairs in the master bedroom at one end of the house so not even central and doesn’t stretch to cover the opposite end of the house. Bought this and installed the cable into the router then two plugs into the living room (where there was no WiFi signal before) and the conservatory, (where there was only weak signal before) and hey presto I have full bars all the time now, and working WiFi in every area of the house! Absolutely thrilled! Can call friends on FaceTime and walk around the house and stay connected now and change networks from my regular EE Hub to the devolo one when I enter the rooms where there was no or weak signal before without ending the call. Works brilliant! Have been running for two wks now with no problems. Totally reliable so far. Also have connected an Ethernet cable from the living room plug directly into the Apple TV so the connection isn’t via WiFi.

Works for me; dont confuse bits per second with Bytes per second

These were augmenting an existing installation therefore am well versed with the positives and negatives of the using this product. The WiFi side has some good features however, I keep it simple and it works as I planned. I agree with previous comments regarding throughput of "speed" of the network but cannot help but question whether some are confusing (bits and Bytes) bps and Bps. However, I have not seen the quoted 500Mbps on the network but there again it is highly dependent upon the quality of your house wiring and in some cases use of extension leads. All of which will impact the the perceived Mbps. One point I do have is the random loss of connectivity from time to time resulting in a "three pin reset" i.e. pull the plug then power up again. This something I am well aware of hence not a great inconvenience to me but others may be "spitting feathers" if they are not technically aware. Hence the 3 stars.

      Excellent

These adapters are a huge improvement on the TP-Link variety I had before. If you're suffering with the dropped connection problem I recommend you try these. I'm running a BT "smarthub", across 30 year old electrical wiring and on the other side of a RCCB. Thus far (its been running for nearly 3 days) there have been zero drops and the speed is up by about 10mbps over the TP Link ones (still about half of what I can obtain over wi-fi but that's a recognised issue with powerline adapters I guess). The TP Link versions would crash the hub every time with an upload (even a speed test would cause it to bin) and were delivering about a quarter of the wif-fi speed.Super easy to setup - literally, cable to hub and press a couple of buttons - and with the pass-through plug you don't lose a socket.I'm optimistic I might just have found the most stable solution to a connectivity problem.

Extended wifi where it needed to go.

There are various ways of setting up this extender - I choose to 'clone' my wifi from the router so all passwords were identical throughout the house - you can also choose to set it up to have an individual password for the individual plug - whichever way you go, it results in 'dead zones' disappearing and the wifi signal working really well. There is also a LAN socket on the plug, so something like a TV can be plugged in directly as if in to the router and not rely on the wifi signal - perfect. Highly recommended. Ive used the system for over a year and just purchased an additional plug to extended into a new room. Not rated technical support as I didn't use it.

      Devolo 550 need download

Struggled with this product in that it did not work out of the box as claimed. It was not compatible with other Devolo 200 devices on my network. However I mad a note of the security keys on the back of the devices and downloaded the DLAN Cockpit software from Devolo. This gives the option to add devices to the network by typing in the security key - and it worked. The software detects all the DLAN devices on my network including non Devolo devices and displays their status. Was on the point of sending them back but now happy but only 4 stars because of need to download software which was not in the instructions.

Easy, affordable and excellent adapter to boost WiFi from your home into your garden

My devolo dLAN 500 Wi-Fi Powerline starter kit arrived today (comprising two adapters and an Ethernet cable) and I’m so impressed!! Took around 10 mins to set up. There are YouTube videos to help with the setting up. After connecting the Ethernet cable from the router in my living room into the main devolo adapter, I plugged the other adapter (with Wi-Fi capability) into an electrical socket in my summer house in my garden around 50m away from my flat. At last - I’ve got Wi-Fi in my garden and the signal is very strong as it goes down the power cable, I suppose. Thanks, devolo, for creating such an excellent product, which makes boosting the Wi-Fi into your garden so easy and affordable!!

Integrates seamlessly with existing powerline adapters

Integrates seamlessly with my existing devolo 1200wifi ac network powerline adapters. Although a slower transmission speed, the unit is used for occasional outside use and provides more than adequate speeds. using my 76mbps broadband, with what feels like gazillions of devices connected, phones, tabs computer xbox tv's wifi lights etc, this unit still provides a decent speed of over 20mbps outdoors. Excellent considering it is run through an extension reel (not ideal I know) and literally at the furthest point it could be from the router. More than happy tbh

      Increase my speed by 10-20mbps

I, like many, am now working from home in a makeshift home office. This involves internet virtual meetings regularly on top of any pre existing internet demand in the house (TV/streaming/phones/Sonos system etc).

Whilst not 'poor' my wifi signal in the office was at best reaching 40.4mbps, sometimes as low as 25mbps (with an average of 32mbps). I therefore wanted to improve my internet speed to the computer and make it 'immune' to other wifi demands. Also ethernet connections are more stable - so I am less likely to 'cut out' in the middle of a meeting due to wifi fluctuations.

I therefore (after lots of research) went for the Devlo Lan 550+ kit - as I wanted 2 ethernet ports in the office. One for the computer, one for the Sonos/Ikea Symphonisk lamp. People go for the 1200 and 2400 untis - but you need to look at your internet connection speed. If like me you have 50mbps coming in - 550 is far above this! Having 1200+ would serve me no benefit.

The unit came, was simple to install (plug in, press pair button - ready!) and has consistently brought my speed up to an average of 50.2mbps. Considering I have a 50mbps BT Fibre package - this is a good result indeed. I ran multiple broadband speed tests (Ofcom), in different locations and at different times to validate the results.

I can conclusively say that by switching from wifi in my home office to ethernet via the Devolo LAN 550+ I have gained between 10-20mbps increase in internet speed. Objectively, consistently and validated via repeat testing.
