      Yeah its good

I bought this as my older iron passed away suddenly after 6 years. I used the steam function all the time until it got sick and spat limescale out. I bought this iron after reading review after review. Some good and some bad.

I took the plunge and ordered one.
The good points are its large size covers items with a good amount of heat, removing creases in less passes.

The cord is long which is a nice touch.

The bad points are that it spate limescale from day one. Now I have stopped using the steam function. I now fill a plant sprayer with ironing water and coat items before I iron them. It works fine.

If only I thought to use this method before I binned my old iron.

      Weird shaped iron, bulky

I bought this iron because my friend recommended it.Not sure how I feel about it yet to be honest. It has two chunks out of it, that are good for around buttons but when I've been ironing it's catching the clothes and making new creases in. Maybe it's the way I'm using it... it feels quite bulky compared to my last iron and I don't feel like it's very smooth over the clothes. I'll keep using it, hopefully I'll just get used to it

Verdict - What works well and what doesn't

I'm writing this review after using the iron a few times.. I find it’s best to capture first impressions with items like this as I tend to get used to odd quirks and start to work around them

      What works well

      # IRONING CAPABILITY - Seems very good - hot temp works well, glides well, notch for use around buttons is useful - initial finish on clothes is good.
      # WEIGHT - The iron is towards the heavy end of what's available - I like this! - It sounds as if the weight might require more effort to use, but I actually find having to apply more downward pressure using a light iron harder work than sliding a heavier one from side to side.
      # SPEED TO HEAT - the 3100W makes a difference - it's right up to top temp in a matter of seconds - this works well for me as the thing I iron most of are cotton shirts .. I actually iron very little on a low setting.
      # STEAM - This feature works well - but it's not a big one for me. As mentioned on the box when it arrives the iron will have a little water residue in it where the steam / spray function has been tested. I actually prefer to use a separate water spray bottle as in the past I've found water reservoirs eventually get a bit grubby and will occasionally leave a spot on a shirt (always at the end when you've ironed the whole thing!) I prefer to keep the iron clean and dry and apply water as I go using a simple garden spray bottle.

      What could be better

      # HANDLE - While this is ok I did find the steam buttons at the front of the handle got in the way a little - not to the point where it was a real problem, but it just made the handle a little less comfortable than it could have been
      # COILING CABLE - This is a little annoying - there is nowhere to coil the cable around the iron after use - having said that I often leave mine out in a spare room.. but not great if you need the space and want to keep it out the way - also think irons left out are extremely dangerous re small kids or pets .. so ability to coil the cable would be useful.

      OVERALL
I like it so far - it feels substantial heats up quickly and irons well.

This iron has served us very well

My wife and I actually purchased our Russell Hobbs Powersteam Ultra just over 18 months ago. So, I thought it would be a good idea to write a belated review on the product.....

First of all, here are our reasons for purchasing this particular iron in the first place:
It was (and still is) a best seller.
Didn't want to pay more than £50.
Needed one that could be used once/twice each week, and handle the requirements of two people.
Wanted one that was easy to use.
We liked the design of the ceramic base, featuring plenty of jet holes, which in turn
helps create plenty of steam. We also liked the two cut-outs in the front of the base plate - these allow easier access into 'difficult to reach' areas of your clothing.
This one has a tangle-free 3 metre lead.
It has a practical handling weight of 1.6Kg (including cable).
      It has a self-cleaning function.

By the way, my wife and I both use the iron, though I'll admit my wife gets more use out of it than me. Now that we've had the experience of using it for all this time, here are our conclusions:
It is indeed easy to use.
It's easy to fill up with - we only use distilled water, because tap water contains calcium, which can clog up the iron. That said, we also (around once a week) use the Self-Clean button which additionally helps to keep those jets clean and clear.
We like that the iron gets up to temperature quickly.
We especially like its steam functions. There is a variable button to regulate the steam, or you can press another button, which results in a quick burst of steam.

Overall, we consider our Powersteam Ultra to be an excellent purchase. Ours has not let us down, it's straightforward and comfortable to use, and it does what we expect of it. I can be quite critical of a product at times, but I honestly cannot find anything negative to to write about this iron. If you want a steam iron, and you have a budget of less than £50 then this one is well worth considering. 😊

This Could Iron a Crease Out of Iron!

Firstly, I bought this when it was on offer for just over 30 quid, so bear that in mind when reading this review.
      Pro
      • Has halved the time I spend ironing. Gets rid of the crease on the first pass.
      • Has a decent length power cable.
      • Has so many features that I can't actually be ars*d to find out what they all do.
      • It is tough - dropped it (about 3 ft onto a hard wood floor) whilst unpacking and it didn't even get a scratch.
      • I don't think you're going to find a better iron around the £30 mark.

      Con
      • It gets HOT! Watch the temperature on this as I actually put a burn mark on the first shirt I used it on.
      • Is a little bit on the heavy side.
      • The thing is constantly beeping and chiming at me.
      • The water needs to be topped up quite a lot.

Super powerful but also super broken after only one year of use

At the beginning I was very impressed by the power of this iron! It heats up very quickly and it DOES get hot! So hot that you really have to be careful with different materials and adjust the temperature accordingly - otherwise it will stick and ruin your clothes, but this is easy to prevent if you pay attention. The steam is also very powerful but uses up the water very quickly. Also here - not a massive issue and easy to refill. My issue: shortly after one year of use ran up also the iron gave up. It wasn’t possible to switch it on any more for reasons unknown. I tried to contact the BargainFox customer service and was forwarded to the Russell Hobbs troubleshooting / customer service department. After being in line for more than 20 minutes and being forwarded to several people also the line gave in... so in the end I didn’t get a solution and bought a different brand. It is a shame as I would have liked to use the iron for a bit longer..

      Pressing Issue

The Darth Vader review caught my eye and this iron does resemble a 'Star Destroyer' I guess. This iron works very well, it is heavy but that can help as you don't need to put as much pressure on yourself but of you like your irons light, this isn't for you. The cable is insanely long, ideal for plugging in and having no restrictions from an overly short one but there is nowhere to store it when not in use.The most annoying thing, for me anyway, is that your hand constantly catches the heat control dial under the handle as there isn't much room. If you have big mitts you may struggle.

      POWERSTEEEEEEAM

DO YOU WANT TO IRON! DO YOU WANT TO LOOK MANY AS YOU IRON? DO YOU PUMP IRON LIKE ARNOLD!?!? then this is the iron to pump! IT COMES IN MANLY BLACK AND RED! USES SO MUCH POWER RAINFORESTS WILL BURN, HAS A HUGE TANK AND MAKES ANY WRIST LOOK MANLY NEXT TO IT! ITS THE BUGATTI OF IRONS! SO MUCH POWER.Seriously it’s great, the little notches for shirt buttons are a great touch, it gets creases out quickly, has a water filter built in so you don’t get those white limescale spit outs that older irons used to do, it glides easily is a good weight, has a long cable and cools fast. It definitely deserves the great reviews and if you’re looking for an iron I’m sure this is one of the best. GRRRRRRR MAN GRRRR.

Not the normal Russel Hobbs quality

Very heavy iron with a large handle. Would not suit anyone with small hands. Steam supply seems temperamental. Also has a nasty habit of tripping the electrics when I use steam boost

      New, or Secondhand?

This is a review on how the item arrived and not based on useage, at this time.On removing the iron from its packaging, we discovered everything was wet. We thought it might be condensation, but on closer inspection now believe that the iron isn’t a new item, but a return. There are marks on the plastic and it doesn’t look like a new item (as believed on purchasing), at all. I’m not sure where that leaves us, from a consumer perspective? Have I bought a ‘second’ on the belief that I had bought a brand new item?
