Not Really a Steam Iron - more a High Powered Iron with Options

Looking at the 5 star reviews makes me feel like I have a different iron!. Anyway, so - it is hot - very hot if you choose to set it that way. And it's well made and looks nice. And the cable is longer than most irons which is really useful. It's heavy. The big issue I have is with steam - which it advertises as very good (ironically). If you press the steam button you'll get a really good stream of steam - but go that route and you'll have repetitive wrist strain in no time at all. I just can't get any steam out of this iron unless I'm shaking it like a banshee, pressing the button, of manually spraying the clothes with a water bottle. If you are looking for an iron that delivers steam to your ironing automatically all the time - I'd give this one a miss. For that facility this has to be the worst iron I have used for something like 30-40 years. In every other respect it's very good. Maybe mine is duff and I should return it - it's only 5 months old?

      It’s has a notch - just like the iPhone X !!

Great iron. Heats up quickly, generates plenty of steam and has a very smooth plate so glides over the clothes easily. The only downside (hence 4 instead of 5nsyars) is that the heat indicators aren’t very clear - so it’s tricky to work out where the cotton or wool settings are.The best thing though is - it has a notch ! Just like the iPhone X ! The notch enables you to iron round buttons - which is oddly satisfying !

      A really efficient iron

Apart from general ironing I also use this for pressing when I'm dressmaking and patchworking. The latter is always cotton fabric so a good iron is essential. So far I'm very pleased with this iron and it's certainly better than the iron it has replaced. I particularly like the function that turns it off automatically after 8 minutes of inaction. This saves me from having to bend down repeatedly to reach the plug to turn it off. It's particularly helpful when I'm sewing and need to sew and press a seam. It also means if I forget to turn it off when I've finished ironing it will turn itself off. The other feature I like is it's very easy to see when it needs to be refilled even if it's turned off. I know I should empty it when I've finished ironing but I don't always! This iron reaches the required temperature very quickly so there's no waiting around for it to heat up. All in all a very good iron.

      A Question Of Lasting

Now I have done my own ironing ever since my mother showed me how when I was in my early teens (as by this time, she had gone back to full time working)
The issue over all of the following years has been the longevity of the iron....and only just getting this iron after my previous one gave up the ghost without any prior warning, it's difficult to say how this one will fare....but I only seem to manage between 4-5 years between each failure! So, I will add to this review at some point in the future
This Ultra 3100 W does get hot very quickly and indeed, seems to get hotter, certainly , than the last iron which makes it especially good for ironing Denim Jeans and Denim Shirts that I have in abundance. While not being a high price point iron, it does appear, however, to be quite well made.
Weightwise, this is a heavier iron, but then, I prefer a heavier one, whereas my wife prefers much lighter irons, so she has her own......
The business end of this iron is ceramic coated and that bodes well for when dealing with "delicates" Certainly metal bases have always been a little tricky and tending to "burn" easily, so this feature should be a bonus.
Steam and spray modes are all fine and filling with water is a doddle
However, there is one niggle which I have to point out, as it is so annoying....when holding the iron by it's handle, the distance between the bottom of the handle and the top of the temperature control is so relatively tight that I find that I can be turning the temperature down accidentally if not careful, when putting the iron into it's standing position and removing my hand. And it is not as if I have particularly big hands, so anyone with bigger hands than me would find this even more annoying and potentially dangerous!

      Will ruin your clothes

I dislike the fact that after 6 months the iron leaks brown coloured liquid all over shirts when ironing. A number of white shirts have been ruined by the staining. When requesting a refund I have been told by Russel Hobbs that I have used the incorrect water. I have been using ironing water (tesco). RH insist that you can only use tap water with this iron and therefore are not refunding. They have told me to clean (which I was doing 2-3 times each time I ironed) to eradicate brown/limescale water and only use tap water. Interesting to see on here how many other customers are having the same problem. Don't buy this iron its big ugly heavy and does not have an amazing anti-scale agent incorporated that helps prevent the build up of scale! Had to give one star as not allowed to review with a zero

      Extremely powerful, great buy!

Great product. I wanted a powerful iron to get rid off the diff creases (tumble dried clothes). This did an amazing job, wth it’s extremely powerful steam. I wanted to buy a big steam iron but could not because of space issue so settled for buying this. That turned out to be a great decision as this one did a pretty good job.I bough mine last year and after that have bought 2 more of the same - one for parents and another one for in laws. It has not given us any issue. Would recommend this product to everyone who wants a powerful heavy iron

      Leaky and Lacking in Steam...

Found it a bit odd that this was supposed to be a brand new item, and arrived with dirty fetid water inside and some limescale build-up on the outside.Tested it regardless and it's dreadful. Leaked constantly from the water-filling port down the handle and into the cord. Added to which, on the highest steam setting, it just about managed to generate a little bit of steam. Very poorly built unreliable piece of kit, like numerous other Russell Hobbs electrical products.

      Used iron recieved

Recived a used dirty iron with water inside and limescale outside, see the pictures. It was nicely packaged as new, very cheeky. Returning now.

Fantastic " dark vader" iron. Steam is the most powerful ever.

      Hello
Now I've been reading many reviews in regards to this product and it was very interesting to get quite contrasting information from both sides of the extreme polarities.
Firstly it is normal for the water tank to have condensation with quite a few people were rather concerned they said you to the testing that is done by all branded irons, not just by this company but also by others as well. Let me reassure you that you don't need to return or to think it's second-hand.
Then quite a few people raise concerns of what they saw was apparent limescale between the the iron plate and the plastic body. Fret not please for this is just residue from the manufacturer of the product and when you first use it as recommended on an old piece of fabric you will see this will dissipate away.
A few people also raised concerns about the location of the cord at the top and this is absolutely normal as it is on my old irons there is no concern of issue of this location at all and it does not get in the way 99% of the time.
Then quite a few people have criticised the apparent distance between the dial to the handle where you grab around it and actually I find the gap is wider compared to the other brands for example my old one is a Philips azur and that was actually a lesser gap this one is absolutely fine and I don't see any issue person and my hand size is large.
Now when it comes to the glide performance I personally have found it far superior to the Philips azur and it will glide on a single layer fabric with no problem However if you will naturally do it on for example a shirt or trouser over the pocket or buttons yes it will the slide not so well because of the natural friction from the garment underneath
Now a few people have raised concerns about it being a heavy iron when actually I found it lighter compared to the Philips azur and I've had that for several years until it is now now.
The cord quality is no difference to the Philips azur and so one person said that they have problems I'm sure they must have burnt it because it's a very sturdy 3 m cord and it's really great.
Yes it's regrettable one cannot coil it around the iron. Myself with this and all irons i just place it back in the box for storage with the box flaps folded inwards
Now I come to the non drip which I personally find just like in other branded irobs is a fad and false and never works with the steam on there is always some water dripping be it from either Tefal or Phillips or even this Russell Hobbs they all drip some water despite the claim that there is non drip I find this unfortunately not to be the case but if someone can please enlighten me how to avoid this happening then please do let me know however it should be automatically non-drip and I put the steam on 25 to 50% only.
I must say to concur with many others at the age is in the the dark Vader and when you press the steam button it's about to fly off into space it's very powerful steam the most powerful I've ever seen compared to the other branded companies and I'm very impressed.
However I tried to do vertical steam on my trousers and I didn't really see much of an effect and I will try this on my shirt however I don't see any point to do it because I will just use it on the typical iron board anyway.
It heats up so fast from cokd in a literal matter of few seconds! And the water is not used up so fast.
My advice is to use the self clean button each time as UK water is very hard so to prolong the life of the iron please.
And lastly some people are claiming they can't see the water level I find this very interesting and maybe they need to go to Specsavers because I see no issue at all to see the water level totally clearly which you can see when it is up dried or when your ironing that there is water in there through the see-through clear plastic which isn't black
At £32 it's s good value iron . I'm ironing much faster with this to my previous iron and buggy he's been to refill the water tank to beforehand.
It will be a test of time to see how long it lasts and please do not forget to register on the website to get the 1-year extra and so in total 3 years warranty with the company.
I shall endeavour to update in due course if there is anything further to add.

      Fantastic iron !

Ok so I do fashion design and needed a new iron , one with more steam power .
My R.H one before has lasted 6 years but needed upgrade .

I still wanted an iron not a steam generator, I just washed 10 m of fabric pre shrink on thick canvas - this is how it came out - got before and after shots .

This iron is heavy , it’s chunky lol but........ hell yeah ! Just do not buy it for your granny ( maybe too heavy for her )

On to the iron , it glides beautifully, it holds more water , I can change the temperature setting still. It heats up well , and most importantly did not burn my fabric and the steam .... ( I did not read instructions.. has a button to slide up for steam preference) hell yeah to the steam shot .

Someone wrote this is the Darth Vader of irons ,,, they were so right ! But it’s more stealth !
I feel like this is awesome for men lol

The only thing is please make it in purple or pink please lol just for me .

I really hope this lasts same as other one . Very happy with purchase.

I did 2 hours research and this was recommended to me .

My creases were super deep in fabric so I am sure this will glide through anything ( school clothes , work shirts , jeans , ect )

Also I got it half price ! I am 35 getting excited about an iron lol .

Hope this helps you pick one
