      .....a curate's egg...

....my 5th electric razor and my 2nd Braun (the 1st being a battery model that I aquired with Texaco stamps decades ago and which I've still got...somewhere...) acquired c. 3 months ago and in regular use since.Also. the most expensive one I've ever bought, being X 2.5 dearer than my last razor, which lasted nearly 3 years and came from a leading cut-price German retail chain. So, what I like about the Series 3 3040s: 1). 'Feels' solid, relatively heavy and well-made. 2). Charges quickly and runs for about 8 days subsequently. 3). The main body is very easy to clean, by which I mean brush out since, even tho' it can be used 'wet' or 'dry' I don't and wouldn't ever use it as a 'wet' shaver... 4). Never had any 'sensitive skin' issues so can't comment on this advertised feature. 5). The hair trimmer is the best I've used to date.......and on the 'minus' (hence ***) side: 1). As previously mentioned, the most expensive electric razor I've ever bought ...and I am aware that there are Braun and other manufacturers who offer FAR more expensive options.... All my previous shavers have worked quite adequately and I've been content with them. I therefore expected this new Braun to function fairly reliably.... 2). however, given the price, it has one particularly irritating issue that I think justifies its middling rating....as mentioned, the main body of the razor is easy to clean yet the shaving head has 'disassembled' itself 4 times when I GENTLY tap it on a hard surface to clean it out. The structure of the cutting head means that the little brush supplied is useless for cleaning it out, and one can only dislodge a little by blowing through the cutting head. I've never had this problem with any of my previous electric shavers....even the old battery Braun. The problem would have been mitigated if re-assembly wasn't such a fiddle....there are 6 slender - and therefore very fragile-looking - plastic pins on which the 3 parts of 'head which make contact with one's skin sit. Trial, error and patience have enabled me to now be able to re-build the cutting head with a degree of confidence that I won't snap off one or more of the aforementioned pins ( start with the 2 outer foils, correctly orientated, then insert the white middle piece between them...)Hence only 3 stars.....I like pretty much everything else about this shaver... maybe I've got a dodgy shaver head, but it works when re-assembled. If the battery and motor last until a new cutting head is needed I'll see how I get on from there....

      Read this advice!

Great bit of kit. After one year I will replace the shaving block and head. After the second year I will order a new razor! Cheap, reliable, quality shaving! This replaced the same model that died after year 3. I've done the top of the range £200 shennanigan and it's all a lie! Don't waste your cash. This shaves as good and IF worse, not noticeable so stick with this £30-40 model and replace after 2 years... it's clearly the way forward IMHO. Simples.

A fantastic alternative to razors for sensitive skin

I purchased this electric razor after years of razor burn, neck rashes and spots from manual razor shaving despite the use of numerous high-end blades and sensitive creams. After two weeks of use using this razor (wet), not only has my razor burn gone but I actually have achieved a closer shave!

I cannot express how a simple thing like not having continuous razor burn has improved my life using this razor. This will probably be my best purchase of 2019.

I have a number of recommendations for use: Firstly, do not push it firmly into your skin, treat it like a manual razor and it will not cut you or cause irritation, the photos of people with marks have probably pressed the head all the way into their skin. Secondly, use it wet, this takes more effort (applying shaving cream for 10 seconds and washing off for 10 seconds), but the result is significantly better than using it dry. Thirdly, buy some Braun appliance oil to apply once a week to keep the blades from dulling (wet or dry use).

I will probably make an update after the head expires and needs replacement to comment on its long-term use.

Oiling it weekly is recommended, if you have a wet shave.

BEWARE! The manual recommends oiling it weekly, if you have a wet shave (and especially if used with shaving foam/gel), but does not come with any! Having oiled it regularly, I'm finding the costly tiny bottles of Braun oil do seem to last a long time. But it might be an idea to consider a Panasonic shaver, which apparently don't require oiling (I assume because the blades are more carefully machined & are coated in low-friction nano particles).Otherwise it's a pretty good shaver, and I prefer it over my previous rotary shaver. The battery lasts over a week on a single charge, but the charger plug is so big & heavy that it falls out of the charging socket very easily (my rotary shaver did not have this problem).

      Excellent shave, Excellent value.

Was looking for another cordless shaver after my last one gave up the ghost & did my homework & came up with the Braun series 3. The price was excellent, the next cheapest for this model elsewhere was an extra £15 so a no-brainer. The reviews swung it for me & well deserved they are, I have only dry shaved (I don't use gel with a cordless shaver) & it shaves extremely close. I really like the case supplied with the shaver, only snag no brush is supplied so glad I kept my previous one.I wouldn't spend anymore on a shaver than this as I believe this model is excellent value for money & does everything it should.

      Poor. Poor. Poor.

I very rarely leave negative reviews. This, however, warrants it.

I've been wanting an electric shaver for years, and thought the price on this one was great. If I'd bought it for the RRP I'd be in tears right now. It's just taken me over 20 minutes of scraping with this weak machine to get what was once a 30 second job with my hair clippers.

I started with a lathered foam, in the shower - I was essentially just rolling the metal foil over my face with no effect at all. I then washed out all the foam and started again. It was better but, even after washing the head out every 5 seconds, I was making very slow progress. Finished the shower looking like a drunk Edward Scissorhands had just attacked my face, only to spend another 5 mins painfully finishing off, once dry.

I'm now red raw, the best part of £60 worse off, and still finding unshaved areas on my face.

Very disappointed. Such a shame as I was really looking forward to these.

Side note (nothing to do with the item and has in no way affected the review): the delivery driver left my parcel propped up against my door on a busy street! If it wasn't for a good neighbour, I'd have never received my shaver... on second thoughts, maybe he/she was trying to do me a favour!

quite good. Is out performing my old shaver by a mile. Managed to get 6 shaves out of it's first charge ( I do have a partial beard so not so much time involved ) whereas I would have been hard pressed to get 2 from my old shaver. So full points on that front. Was disappointed that you can't use it with the power lead plugged in. That's apparently due to the fact that they don't want you taking it into the shower and electrocuting yourself. As if ! Whilst initial performance is good the device is entirely reliant upon the recharge ability therefore when that goes the shaver will be useless. With the ability to use it from the power cord that would extend the life a lot. So am crossing fingers that it will last 2 years otherwise I'll be looking for a refund. Then there is the life of the cutters and the foils - will have to see how that goes. I just don't wanna see holes happening in the foils for at least a year but .. well will have to see how it goes.

Having read loads of reviews i opted for this nice little Braun Series 3

I recently changed my wet shaver and suffered from razor bumps and someone suggested i try an electric razor. Having read loads of reviews i opted for this nice little Braun Series 3. Wow, what a great shaver. Gets really close and guess what, no more razor bumps. Having been so impressed with this shaver, i am now looking to upgrade to the Series 7 which i am told gets even closer and it comes with the clean and charge system. If you are looking for a really good shaver on a budget, go for this one as you wont be disappointed.

      Awful, Do not buy!!!

This shaver is absolutely awful due to the safety features stopping you from even cutting a single hair as I had to push down hard on my face to get it to cut anything which of course was uncomfortable so this product isn't fit for purpose. This product is so safe that it doesn't work in my opinion so this product is just dumb and shouldn't exist. Edit: sent this back for a refund and apparently still waiting on it to arrive even though I sent it back over a week ago so clearly scamming me there so please don't support this seller and buy this crap.

Lovely Shaver. I love it - but I'm not the user

I ordered this for my 88 years old housebound uncle, who has dementia, and had it sent direct to his carer for safekeeping. He'd always used rotating triple head shavers, but over the years he had pulled about five of them apart and lost the bits.

Family had tried in vain to wet shave him, so I chose this shaver because I use foil shavers for underarm shaving, and this shaver was described as ProSkin, wet or dry - but for men! I liked that it was for sensitive skin, and could be rinsed. And I like Braun products.

However, my uncle resisted, said it hurt (probably because no-one cleaned it for him), and refused to let anyone help him. He grew a beard..... which came off when I visited him! I rinsed the shaver under a hot tap, then I demonstrated it to him, on my own face and forearms, then on the back of his hand. Despite a lot of protests, the beard came off (over a period of days) using a hair trimmer - until it was short enough all over to shave.

Now that he has the hang of it, he finds it easy to use. It gives him a clean shave and he's perfectly happy with it. However, if at any time he plays up again, I will keep this shaver myself...... and get him the one he's familiar with.
