Yeah, our 6-month-old Vizsla hated and still hates it, but at 7 months she is now more of a joy to walk - if you can tolerate and talk her out of the (decreasing) 'bronco' episodes. It won't work immediately but once you convince your dog to 'put up' with it, your 4 year old will be able to walk a dog which could previously pull a bus.

Very disappointed in this purchase - the product itself is fantastic for stopping dogs pulling, especially if you have a large, strong dog - I was so excited about this on our walk, as it was working so well, until it snapped mid walk! And that was 1st time use. Fortunately my dog had a harness and lead on too, and the safety clip was attached, with another lead on his collar, however, it made for an uncomfortable walk home as he was without the halti and lunging all the way home. Poorly constructed; wasn’t even pulling to maximum strength.

Used this for a few months if I had reviewed it right away I would say its amazing, best thing I ever tried and still is in a way. My dog walked directly next me instantly. However, he gets very excited when he sees another dog and would thrash his head to regain control causing the band across his snout to go into his eyes or twist so I would have to adjust after passing each dog. Also, due to this the sliding clip on the bottom snapped. So it is an absolute miracle but wont last too long if you have a strong staffy that is overexcited.

This really does take the stress out of walking a 55kg hard pulling German Shepherd, so no complaints there whatsoever. It is fiddly to put on and if the dog is still excited and wanting to play it's a struggle to get it on quickly, but after using it a few times now I am getting more and more used to it. It's a wide band around his mouth and is soft and appears quite comfortable.UpdateI saw on a negative review that this kept a dogs mouth closed and was 'cruel'. Well it's not. If this is happening you aren't putting it on correctly. I'm attaching here a photo where you can clearly see the Halti and that the dog is free to pant, drink water, eat treats, the lot. It is perfectly safe and he is only occasionally irritated by it and that's more that he knows he's not able to bolt off after a cat if one strays into his vision!

This product is a training aid and should ONLY be used as such ie do not put it on and expect your dog not to pull.
If you expect your dog to wear it all the time while walking the Gentle leader is a better option.
Also do not cut the excessively long neck strap to fit until after you've tried it out on your dog.
I'd have returned the Halti immediately if I hadn't.
30 yrs to develop this! IMHO Just coping the style of the gentle leader.
The original Hali worked better than this version imo.

This is well made dog control harness, easy to fit and works well.
This is definitely the best of the bunch.
It features a soft pad to go over the dog's nose. It is so much better than those without.
Your dog will still have resistance when its put on for the first few times it wears it, but will soon get used to wearing it.
I have a 2 year old newfie who thinks she is a collie.
This halti stops her in her tracks.She has quickly learnt not to pull so much and will, in the shortness of time, learn to stop pulling altogether.
There is a knack to putting it on but that is soon mastered.
I recommend this above the others on the market.

This is my second order of a Halti Optima medium dog head collar. I bought one for my Eurasier and it helped control his pulling. I have now purchased one for my Belgian Shepherd Dog.I purchased the medium fit for both dogs, despite the vast difference in the dogs sizes the medium works well. The collar is very flexible and adjust well to both dogs head /neck size. It takes a few adjustments to get it right and comfortable for the dog but this is time well spent. I especially like the fact that the head collar clips onto the dog's own collar which is an added safety feature in case the head collar should slip off which has never done.

This is an update for this product. I have rated this product 1 star only for the reason that it is good when it works. Now I would rate it as totally unacceptable and not fit for purpose. I have a medium size dog and after having this item for only a few months the securing clip on the nose band has suddenly whilst out walking the dog just completely snapped. It is now unusable and obviously a design fault as this plastic clip has proven not to be strong enough or fit for purpose. On this basis I would be concerned about using one on a Large/E Large strong dog.

This halti is extremely light, fits well on my hound, who I bought the medium size for.Only thing I'm not keen on is the collar part is slightly slippery and found it slips loose. Hopefully some wear and age will stop this?!I thought the red part was going to be padding on the nose area but it's not, would have been a nice touch if it had been! Hence 4 stars rather than 5.

This Halti is amazing at stopping my dog pulling...if you’re happy to let it ride up into your dog’s eyes ALL THE TIME. My husky got so many eye infections from this horrible piece of equipment that we had to stop using it. I am aware it’s supposed to be uncomfortable for the dog to pull, but it was just so easy for the Halti to rub into his eye. Not worth it - spend the money on either a proper harness or Dogmatic instead (these don’t ride up in eyes at all). Avoiding Halti like the plague.
