I thought it would be a good choice, but I was very disappointed in it ...

Very laggy and unresponsive on my Windows 8.1 HP Envy 15 laptop - to the point, it was unusable. Cursor jumped erraticaly when moving and was near impossible to navigate web pages or do any meaningful task with it. I reinstalled drivers, Microsoft Keyboard & Mouse Centre, and made sure there was nothing interfering with the signal. Tried using USB 2.0 & 3.0 ports, numerous reboots and trawled the net for advice, to no avail.

I thought it would be a good choice, but I was very disappointed in it having not even the basic functionality of a mouse - to move the cursor from A to B smoothly.

      Be warned.

Not the most comfortable to hold, but ok

Tried it on Windows 7 64 bit. It struggled with plug 'n' play, but I found the driver on the Microsoft site and installed it - all 49mb of it (I kid you not!). But on the plus side it does allow you to program the two upper buttons; two side-buttons and wheel.

Having been used to more expensive mice that provide a nice rest for your palm, this one only rests the fingers. It's not an uncomfortable un-ergenomic mouse, but it still doesn't fill the hand in the way you'd hope. The resolution isn't too smooth and I would imagine drawing fine graphic detail would be difficult.

The nano transeiver is typical of the short usb (easy-to-lose) items they produce and I found it needed to be within 3 feet, so putting it at the back of the PC caused comms problems. It would be ok on any front USB ports as it doesn't stick out. But I ended up putting the transceiver on the end of a spare USB lead extention from the back of the PC to the desktop height to ensure a good comms link.

Unlike the MS 5000 version, I found this one failed to get recognised natively in boot environments such as restore cd's, live CD's. So I had to look for another wireless mouse for those times.

I don't think I'd recommend, not given some of the cheaper variants that I've had, that work without a hitch.

Cursor jumps and stutters win 10 desktop

This worked ok for a while. The batteries didn't last very long. Then, a little while after battery replacement the cursor started jumping erratically all over the place instead of gliding smoothly.I've tried all the MS suggested fixes in vain. Different USB slot, uninstall driver, reinstall/update driver, ;press the reset button on the mouse.I don't recommend this little critter one little squeak. Waste of my money.

Good for mindless clicking, utterly useless for CAD and the like.

This would have been a lovely, comfortable mouse. Alas, there is one major problem with this mouse, and if the forums are any indication, this is a problem with all BlueTrack mice... the middle click delay.Anyone who uses productivity applications such as AutoCAD, Maya, 3DS Max, Photoshop, or anything remotely similar will know just how critical the middle click is on a mouse. Sadly, this mouse's middle click is delayed by around 500~1000ms from click-to-action, which is enough time for a seasoned veteran of the above-listed applications to execute several commands and/or actions. This delay is so severe that you cannot double-middle-click, which is a deal-breaker for me.Not that fixing that would have helped, since actually performing a middle click requires so much force that it's almost impossible to not move the mouse slightly while doing so. This matters because this mouse won't even register a middle click while the mouse is in motion. Ridiculous!I'll stick with my Arc Mouse, which remains my favourite.

Best everyday use mouse on the market

This is my Third Mobile mouse 4000 in 7 years, i do not get any other brand or model.
Has had 8-10hrs use everyday n the office, 5 days a week and both the last two i have had lasted 3-4years each with battery lasting 4-6months.
Perfect size in my hand, smooth matt surafce on top, with rubber textured sides and the third buttton on the left to scroll back is quite handy. Pointer performance is exemplary and is always responsive. Reads well on most surfaces.
But the most impressive feature is that smooth scroll wheel and soft quiet click, which has very little resistance and just feels of high quality build.
Will probably always buy this mouse even though it is double the price of most competitors.

      Very substantial but eats batteries!

This is an edited update. Having purchased this over two years ago, I still use it! but I am here to look to get a replacement as I am tired of changing the batteries every time I turn around lol

The mouse itself - I HAVE been using it every single day on my PC for two years! It's VERY substantial and VERY Well made.

Takes ONE AA battery (we use rechargeables!)
NO wires, no mess, very functional and no conflicts with Windows 10 to my knowledge.
Very easy to use for graphics, photo manipulation.
Very easy and great for gaming! (WOW, Varous Steam. Sims 2-4 lol)

The downside - it eats my batteries for snacks... lunch and dinner. LOL
Otherwise it's the best mouse I have ever owned.
I am going to see if I can go wired.. as much as I hate/loathe/absolutely despise wires.. I am thinking of the batteries >.<

I DO Recommend the mouse, but just be aware - I think because of WHAT it is and what is THERE IN (well made, solid really) that it just drains batteries! A good mouse to have imo (But do keep an ongoing supply of rechargeables on hand! I can just grab a replacement anytime, just.. how frequently I do that.. ) lol

Would suit small handed palm gripper who doesn't use the middle button.

This is a disappointing mouse. Compared to the cheaper 1000 it's better constructed with nicer materials, but it's also heavier and weighted more towards the rear. I imagine this mouse would suit someone with smaller hands who uses a palm grip. The middle button/wheel is horrible. The wheel rotates smoothly as if on a bearing, but the button itself is very stiff and has a lot of travel. This means it's hard to depress the middle button without also registering a mouse wheel event. I did like the over engineered storage slot for the dongle. It clicks home nicely and a button releases it again.

      Drunk & Suicidal

Purchased because Microsoft Visio Help seemed to suggest the Intelli Mouse provided more Pan & Zoom features. I never got as far as trying to find them. The pointer behaved like it was drunk. Over-shooting a target position and wavering around, homing-in on a resting place. Utterly un-usable but worse was to come. The USB slot dongle seems to deploy barbs once inserted. Finger strength was inadequate to remove it, so I tried successfully with pointed-nose pliers. Well I say, "successfully", I managed to remove the dongle but it still required such force of grip that it was destroyed in the process. Thus rendering it un-Returnable for Refund.Utility and longevity vs expensive makes the Mouse 4000 outstandingly the worse IT accessory I've ever procured. If there was a negative-Star rating I'd use it. It pains me to have to give it 1 star.

One of the Best Computer Mouse's

One of the best computer mouse's I have used.
The design of this mouse is excellent and fully wraps around your hand nicely.
You can use the mouse for extended periods of time without any ache.

The laser capability of the mouse is excellent and can be used on any surface except glass and the cursor movement is smooth and precise.

I have tried many fancy mouse's from Dell and Trust, but always seem to go back to this Microsoft 4000 mouse.
It uses a simple AA battery and lasts around 6 months, I tend to use rechargeable batteries and have a spare on rotation so I am never without a battery. There is a small LED just below the centre scroll wheel to indicate that the battery is low (it flashes red). It does not illuminate on normal use.

The receiver is a USB-A type and is super slim and compact and when plugged into the side of the laptop is it hardly noticeable. There have never been any communication drop outs.

I love the side button on the left, it is usually default as a "back button" so you can browse back to a previous website.
The centre scroll wheel is smooth and is lovely to use.

Most newer type mouse's feature Bluetooth connectivity so this model is fairly out dated by today's standards.
However, it is super reliable and fantastic quality. It will outlast the life of your computer.

Great mouse but scroll wheel needs to be more grippy

Only been using the mouse for a couple of weeks but for everyday work on my laptop, it’s great. Quick, responsive, much better than the touchpad on my surface laptop. Ergonomically, nice size and feel. Seems to work well on most surfaces. Incredibly easy to install with small USB dongle. Literally took seconds. Only negative point is the scroll and click wheel, it has no grip and is slippery which means scrolling doesn’t work as easily as it should. Particularly awkward on warmer days if your hand is a bit sweaty. If not for this, would have given 5 stars. Can’t comment on battery life as not had it long enough. Will come back and re review when I’ve used for a few months. I only use it for work, not gaming so cannot comment on use for that.
